Neurology and mental health
The most sensitive instrument of the human body is the brain and the disorders that affect it. Disorders and diseases such as stroke, epilepsy, mood disorders, dementia and sleep apnoea, are each key areas of research carried out by The George Institute.
We aim to reduce the worldwide burden of neurological and mental health disorders by evaluating current knowledge, conducting major research studies and developing new strategies to influence how medicine is practised in this field. Our work addresses stroke incidence using large scale, collaborative, epidemiological and clinical trials methodology; and also looks at how chronic disease can skew the incidence of mood disorders and how physical recovery may be aided if mood disorders are closely managed.
