United Kingdom

DPhil student

Ana-Catarina is investigating blood pressure management in complex populations, namely atrial fibrillation, heart failure and multimorbidity. Her main interests are population health, cardiovascular epidemiology, and clinical trials and synthesis of evidence.

After completing a Master's degree in Medicine in Portugal in 2012, Ana-Catarina moved to the UK to continue her post-graduate medical training in the Oxford Foundation School. She then moved to Manchester as a specialty trainee in Cardiothoracic Surgery. During her training, she completed a further two Master's degrees in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology in Oporto, Portugal, and Medical Education in Liverpool, UK.

Her passion to improve population health and reduce inequalities across the world motivated her to change career and join The George Institute for Global Health, where she is doing her DPhil under the expert supervision of Professor Kazem Rahimi.
