Major award for Australia-China business partnerships

The George Institute, China, has won an AustCham Westpac Australia-China Business Award (ACBA) in the category of Business Excellence for Sustainability, Diversity and Social Responsibility.

The George Institute for Global Health is a not-for-profit medical research organisation with centres in Australia, China, India and United Kingdom, whose mission is to improve the lives of millions of people worldwide through innovative health research. 

The George Institute, China, has a high reputation especially in the area of non-communicable disease (NCD) management and conducts a series of high-impact research projects. TGI China embraces its 10th year in 2017 and is committed to undertaking research and identifying practical solutions that are central to tackling the growing burden of chronic disease. 

Professor Craig Anderson, Executive Director of The George Institute, China, accepted the award at a ceremony in Beijing on 18 May. Professor Anderson said, “It’s a fantastic honour as we were up against some incredible finalists.” 

“The mission of The George Institute is to improve the health of millions of people worldwide and we are doing just that in China. This is evident in our work in the area of heart disease, stroke, trauma, injury, women’s and child health, diabetes and nutrition. We do this by providing innovative, scalable healthcare solutions and we conduct high-impact research projects.”

Those projects include:

Professor Anderson added: “George Clinical is the commercial arm of The George Institute for Global Health, and is dedicated to achieving our mission by transforming research findings into sustainable healthcare solutions, whilst supporting the broader work of The George Institute.”

Also nominated for the award were Argyle Hotel Group, China Australia Millennial Project, Cochlear, In-Balance Australia, Sino Gas Energy and Smart Buy Glasses.
