Big data in Health Research

Everyone talks about big data but what does it actually mean? What is new, compared with data mining? What are some of the benefits and challenges in the ‘big data” era? Dr Annie Solterbeck will address these questions and provide examples of the use of “big data” in healthcare. Professor Sallie Pearson will then discuss the role of big data in post-market surveillance (PMS) and policy. She will highlight the opportunities and challenges of undertaking PMS in Australia including data linkage and privacy issues and share some case studies of the research her team has undertaken. Presented by the Australian Pharmaceutical Biostatistics Group.
