We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Senior Biostatistician to join our growing BioStatistics team.
The Biostatistics team is responsible for the provision of statistical expertise to support the research done at the George Institute; this includes clinical trials, meta-analyses, observational studies, surveys as well as teaching and the development of new statistical methods. Occasionally, the team also provides services to external organisations included the ones contracted via George Clinical, the commercial arm of the George Institute.
The Senior Biostatistician is responsible for the design, analysis and reporting of medical research projects conducted by the George Institute in Australia and globally. The above position is based in Sydney and the applicant should be willing to be located in the Sydney office.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Help design studies and develop funding applications
- Contribute to proposal and budget development
- Perform sample size/power calculations
- Lead the development of SAP - Statistical Analysis Plans
- Perform complex statistical analyses
- Manage and/or mentor more junior staff from the biostatistics and data science division
- Independently manage all statistical aspects of a project
- Coordinate a project team of biostatisticians and/or (statistical) programmers
- Provide statistical advice to Institute researchers
- Interpret and co-author study results
- Co-supervise of high-degree research students
- Keep abreast of new statistical methods
- Actively develop professional networks with peer statisticians locally and internationally
- Contribute to capacity development in Biostatistics including Machine Learning and Evidence Synthesis methods
- Act as direct point of contact with internal and external researchers
- Comply with all institute policies and SOPs as well as regulatory requirements for the programming, analysis and reporting of research projects (e.g. FDA, EMEA, TGA etc)
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Masters/ Doctoral qualifications in Statistics
- 3-5 years’ experience as a Senior Biostatistician in an academic/health setting or related field
- Excellent working knowledge of at least one of SAS, R and Stata software
- In-depth understanding of probability and statistics theory
- Understanding of data management principles for clinical trials and medical research
- Applied knowledge of advanced statistical models, such as generalized linear models, survival analyses and mixed models
- Experience managing projects, including project resourcing and planning
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical trials and medical research
- Strong focus on quality and timely delivery of work.
- Well organized with good time management skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in English
- Ability to work well and flexibly i.e. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
- Ability to see the big picture, whilst still maintaining a focus on detail and implementation
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
