
Research Fellow
• Part time (3 days) or Full Time, Fixed term for 18 months
• Injury Division

A medical research institute affiliated with leading universities and with projects in approximately 50 countries, we are challenging the status quo in healthcare to find the best ways to prevent and treat chronic disease and injury, and to influence policy and practice worldwide.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join the Injury division at the George Institute. So if you are keen on developing a career in the field of global public health this could be the role for you! The role offers a prospect of working on a range of multi-centre projects in collaboration with some of the world’s leading injury researchers, clinicians and academic partners. The research fellow is expected to contribute towards the research initiatives of the Injury division and develop his/her research expertise through the pursuit of defined research projects relevant to injury research in low and middle income countries.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
• Synthesizing literature and contributing to or leading systematic reviews
• Report writing
• Preparation of Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and Governance submissions
• Initiate and conduct research under limited supervision
• Contribute towards building future projects and grant applications
• Effectively produce and maintain project data. Conduct data analysis and prepare data for publications and reporting.
• Regularly update study tracking tools and systems
• Manage effective communication with internal and external study staff and key stakeholders.
• Adhere to all study protocols and participate in protocol training sessions as required.
• Adhere to safety policies and study SOPs, as outlined by The George Institute.
• Adhere to the workplace policies and procedures of individual hospital study sites, as required.
• Attend study team meetings and appropriately represent The George Institute and the study at all times while located at clinical sites.
• Other tasks as directed by the senior investigative team.
Desired Skills and Experience
Our ideal candidate will possess:
• Tertiary qualifications in public health, epidemiology or a related science.
• Experience within epidemiology, injury prevention, health promotion, allied health environment or equivalent
• Proven ability to work independently
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and build relationships within a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; confident interpersonal skills with the continuous strong focus on quality work
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Attention to detail and rigorous methodological approach
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments whilst maintain a results orientated approach

Please note that the working hours for this role is negotiable and we will consider suitable applicants on a part time basis (3 days per week) up to fill time hours. The role is scheduled to start early September 2017.
