Exciting senior leadership role in world-class global research organisation
The George Institute (TGI) is a global organization with 700+ people worldwide, all of whom are focused on improving the health of millions of people worldwide. We are an independent medical research institute affiliated with leading universities worldwide and with research programs in more than 50 countries. We are challenging the status quo in healthcare to find the best ways to prevent and treat chronic and complex conditions, and to influence policy and practice. We are looking for an exceptional academic leader to expand and strengthen TGI in Australia and globally.
The appointment of this position comes at an exciting time for TGI, as we are soon to introduce our 2025 strategic plan. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the delivery of these strategic priorities, both within Australia and globally. The three priorities are:
- Finding better treatments for the world’s biggest health problems
- Transforming primary health care to deliver better health to more people
- Harnessing the power of governments, markets and communities to improve health
Additionally, TGI is three years into an initial nine-year affiliation with UNSW Sydney. The opportunities for partnerships and collaborations to drive mutual growth are significant and the successful candidate will be expected to take a key leadership role in engagement with the university as well as having responsibility for maximising the success of the affiliation.
Overview of the role
The Executive Director, TGI Australia has responsibility for all TGI staff and operations within Australia (approx. 280 people) and has a significant role in the leadership team responsible for the entire global organisation.
The successful candidate will be expected to: facilitate the growth and excellence of the academic research outputs of the Australian organization; increase the impact of its research on policy and practice globally and locally; and ensure the organization’s work aligns with the new global strategy.
In addition to providing strategic and operational management oversight, the appointee will be expected to maintain their own research program in a relevant area.
