
Director, Cardiovascular Division
The George Institute for Global Health is a not-for-profit research organisation with offices in Australia, China, India and the UK. Currently, the organisation has over 500 staff globally. Head office is located in Sydney at sites in the CBD and at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, adjacent the University of Sydney main campus.
You will be employed by The George Institute for Global Health and you will report directly to the Executive Director of The George Institute. This position may be eligible for a conjoint appointment through the University of Sydney (at the level of Associate Professor or above), commensurate with the successful applicant’s experience and qualifications.
The Cardiovascular Division is primarily focused on the evaluation of strategies for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. This involves the development of novel interventions, high quality and rigorous evaluation, and translation of findings into practice for Australians but also aligning with the WHO/ WHF in improving cardiovascular health globally. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally and expected to remain as such for at least the next two decades. The division activities involve conceptualising, evaluating and implementing novel CVD prevention strategies suitable for a wide range of different settings.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the standing of the division as a leading contributor to cardiovascular research in the Australasian region and globally. You will have additional responsibilities for the initiation, development, funding, conduct and reporting of all research and related activities within the Cardiovascular Division, consistent with the strategic goals of the Division and of the Institute.
This role will involve working with senior academics across the organisation, and the management of the employees throughout the Cardiovascular Division ensuring that research goals, budgetary requirements and revenue generation are reached to assist in the sustainability of the Cardiovascular unit. As part of this role, it will be key that the Director of Cardiovascular will track the progress of the research programs against performance milestones.
The role may require substantial national and international travel.
