Better management of common chronic and critical conditions

Chronic diseases, such as heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes and stroke, are now leading causes of death and disability in both lower and higher income countries. We look for new ways to improve the prevention and treatment of these conditions in both community and hospital settings.

  • A flagship research project is studying the effects of immediately lowering blood pressure of hospital patients with intracerebral haemorrhage. Pilot study results suggested that this treatment strategy may have beneficial effects on survival and disability.
The George Institute is conducting 66 projects in 47 countries - find out more about these projects from the related links on the right
