The George Institute congratulates new NSW Ministers

Statement from Professor Vlado Perkovic, Executive Director, The George Institute Australia:

“The George Institute congratulates The Hon. Brad Hazzard MP as the new Minister for Health, and Minister for Medical Research, and The Hon. Melinda Pavey MP as the new Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight. I also congratulate The Hon. Pru Goward MP on her appointment as the new Minister for Family and Community Services, Minister for Social Housing, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and extend our thanks for her support in her time as Minister for Medical Research.

One of the biggest challenges facing our generation is to find real long lasting solutions to the biggest burdens of disease and injury in order to create a healthy future for all Australians. We look forward to continuing to work with the NSW Government under the leadership of Premier Gladys Berejiklian to transform health outcomes through world class healthcare innovation and research.

I wish the outgoing Premier and Ministers all the best in their future endeavours. I commend Mr Mike Baird on his commitment to tackling childhood obesity as one of the Premier's Priorities.

In particular, I would like to thank Mrs Jillian Skinner for her ongoing support of The George Institute, her passion for medical research and to tackling chronic disease through integrated care and other innovative approaches.

We thank Mr Duncan Gay for his support for The George Institute, especially for our work in Aboriginal road safety and providing critical funding for Driving Change, a licensing support system for young Aboriginal drivers in NSW.”
