Sepsis around the world: disparities and solutions with Flavia Machado

Flavia Machado is a professor and head of the Intensive Care Session of Anesthesiology, Pain and Intensive Care Department at the Federal University of São Paulo in São Paulo, Brazil. Machado is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and critical care.

Dr. Machado is one of the founders of the Latin America Sepsis Institute – LASI being currently its CEO. LASI is devoted to quality improvement process, multicenter studies in sepsis field and awareness campaigns.

She is part of the executive board of the Global Sepsis Alliance as well as the executive committee for the World Sepsis Day. She serves on the 2012 and 2016 of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign International Guidelines, being now the head of Hemodynamic group in the 2020 board. She is also a member of the Executive Committee and the current chair of the Scientific Committee of the Brazilian Research in Intensive Care Network - BRICNET. She is also a member (founder) of the Latin America Intensive Care Network (LIVEN). She integrates the International Sepsis Forum (ISF) council since 2014. She is a member of the Diversity Task Force of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
